There is no learning without obedience, and there is no obedience without discipline. This relationship in both families and schools must always be based on mutual respect and trust.
— Dr. Lane S. Anderson
Care Enough to Discipline: Raising Children for the 21st Century is less than an hour read and a crash course for busy parents and educators alike in how to successfully raise today’s children. Dr. Lane S. Anderson shares his forward-thinking insights and observations based on his lifetime of experiences as a parent, teacher, principal, college instructor, columnist, philosopher, naval officer, school consultant, and therapist for individuals, couples, and families. With brevity and clarity, this educational maverick conveys just how critical discipline can be in the process of children being taught by the most important influences in their early life: parents and educators. While many see the discipline process as a result of children avoiding negative consequences in the form of punishment, Care Enough to Discipline emphasizes discipline more as a function of children aspiring toward positive consequences in developing their patterns of behavior. Designed as a quick read for busy, on-the-go parents and teachers, Care Enough to Discipline is sure to be a favorite addition to every home and school bookshelf.
Dr. Lane S. Anderson holds undergraduate and master’s degrees from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and a doctorate in educational administration and leadership from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. He also completed four years of post-doctoral work in the field of human development and family studies. Dr. Anderson was an educator for 33 years (teacher and coach for 11 years) and an award-winning principal of two elementary schools and one middle school, all of which were known for high student achievement, closing minority achievement gaps, strong parental support, and excellent school-wide discipline. He has been a keynote speaker and seminar presenter at international, national, and state conventions as well as a guest speaker at churches, schools, and civic clubs.
Before entering the field of education, Dr. Anderson served for four years on active duty in the United States Navy as well as 21 years in the naval reserve intelligence program, retiring with the rank of captain.
